Have you ever heard of who Mazikeen is?
Popular culture has given wings and fanfare to theories around who and what Mazikeen is. But, now we are going to uncover who Mazikeen in the Bible is and what you can learn from that.
You must have watched the Lucifer show on tv. It’s a drama about the devil let loose on earth. Mazikeen is popular in the show and the tv series shows her as the demon who followed Lucifer out of Hell.
Mazikeen is as important in Biblical history as Amenadiel is and we’re going to see the deeper Biblical links to both these characters.
Who is Mazikeen?
You must be a big believer in the divine order of things and the fact that God created the world. Popular Tv shows paint characters into their shows borrowing from the rich lore in Bible and other mythological texts and mysteries.
As such, there’s little doubt that the character mazikeen is someone who really found existence in the Bible.
In the show Mazikeen goes by a shorter name called Maze. Maze is a soulless, extremely powerful arch demon of the first order.
She’s a devoted trustee of Lucifer and child of Lilith. As such there’s no precursor in the Bible to her.
In the episodes it is revealed that she was conceived in the bowels of hell with the sole intent of torturing the guilty for ever.
Mazikeen in the Bible and the historical sources like Talmud
Even though apparently Mazikeen doesn’t seem to have a presence in the Bible, let’s examine other historical sources to see if our findings are indeed real.
It needs to be said that the Old testament doesn’t discuss the devil or the arch demons in detail. The details if any are sparse and are painted in a way to show no autonomy.
The New testament however gives restricted freedom to demons. In the old testament however there’s frequent mention of palestinian gods that are thought to be arch demons manifested as gods but the link is not immediately evident.
What do the Talmud and Midrash say about the existence of Mazikeen?
The Talmud is written by Rabbi Judah discussing the life and customs for the nation of Israel.
There’s no direct mention of this character. However the name has been most likely derived from the hebrew root word-Mazzikin, which means the one who brings harm or danger and does resonate very well with what Mazikeen stands for.
The word Mazikeen refers to a class of Jewish demons in history. According to the rabbis all the demons that exist are the children of Lilith and Adam.
So there’s a little more history behind this.
Who’s Lilith and what’s her connection to Adam the first man in Bible?
Lilith isn’t a name we hear in the Bible but a character exists. If you look at Genesis there are two origin stories.
Rabbi teachers postulate that the first wife of Adam was Lilith who was not found to be a perfect fit and was cast out of Eden.
She’s Lilith the first woman and the mother of all demons.
The second woman’s reference is in Genesis 2:7-22. After she was cast out from Eden she carried a curse with her to become a demon.
And as daughter of Lilith Mazikeen is also a demon.
Demons of the new testament
The new testament is a bit clearer on demons than the old testament which remains tight-lipped.
In the New Testament demons are a little depersonalized. They’re thought more of as unclean spirits.
These unclean spirits don’t resist the will of Jesus and submit to him on command. Jesus also tells his followers that they are going to submit to their will.
In tv shows and most series the demons resemble more of those as seen in the New testament. Demons were also caused to attribute mental and physical illnesses.
Mazikeen in the tv series Lucifer
In the tv series Mazikeen exhibits a complex character with incredible fighting skills.
That has turned her to a fan-favorite.
She’s Lucifer’s confidante, one of the best soldiers in the armies of hell, a strict enforcer and built with great powers.
She’s also one of the most skilled torturers in hell.
Dante’s inferno makes a passing reference to torture and origin of the name Maze and is the strongest link we could find yet.
Who’s Mazikeen in the Bible Conclusion
Uncovering the historicity of Mazikeen in the Bible we can see that there’s parallel in the Bible. However she shares a mother Lilith and from her name its clear that she is one of the best torturers hell has ever known.
Maze has a complex character. She’s a bold fighter as well which is what makes her so endearing to watch.
The tale is certainly gripping and sends us loose on a wild west tale full of intrigues and intricacies that are nowhere to be found.
This much is clear: The name Mazikeen finds its origin in the Jewish texts and folklore.
